Q1: How do I see a font sample or keyboard layout?

On MacOS 8 and 9, use the program "Key Caps" to see a keyboard layout. The sample keyboard will even use the font that you select in the menu bar. So this makes it a good way to look through the available fonts and pick one for a project.

MacOS X version 10.3 and higher does not have the Key Caps program. Take a look at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25618 for instructions on accessing the replacement for Key Caps.
